PINK HILL First-Citizens Bank and Trust Co. of Smihfield, al--"ady probing a recent $59,000 shor tage at its Roseboro branch, an nounced Thursday that a $75,000 shortage had been been discovered at its Pink Hill branch. President Lewis R. Holding, who revealed the shortage, said that Ro bert F. Holt, cashier of the Pink Hill branch, had admitted the sb tages in his accounts. Holding stressed that all funds and accounts are fully covered by indemnity bond. Holt, according to Holding, ha? absolved nil other personnel "of any knowledge 'or responsibility," 'John G. Dswbqq of Kinston, at torney for Holt, also stated that ( "Mr. Hdlt has made a full dis closure ot this -matter without any reservations whatsoever." Dawson explained that tbe shor tage "is largerly, if not entirely, Tiade of irregularities and entries on the bank record and is not com posed of embezzlement, but is .composed of entries to assist custo mers of the bank, such as bad check payments." Road Requests Here, April 12 Residents of Duplin County will have an opportunity to present road Tequests, petitions and problems to 'representatives of the Third High way Division at a public hearing on Tuesday, April 12. Announcement of the hearing was made today by Division Engineer T. J. McKini. City and county officials, along with the general public, are invited . to attend the hearing if they have load requests which tiiey feel should receive attention. The hearing will be he'd on Tues day, April 12, between the hsurs of 2 and 4 p. m., in the Auditorium ol Jhe Agricultural Building here. This is one. of a series, of public hearing fceing held in th eThird Div Ision, which is composed of Duplin, Onslow, ; Tesder, New Hanover, Brunswick and Sampson Counties. FBI agents, who are assisting with the Roseboro bank shortage probe, are expected to look into the Pink Hill's shortage. Pink Hill's shortage, like that at Koseboro, was discovered on a rountine examination of books by auditors of First-Citizens Bank and Trust Co. No charges have been filed in the Roseboro nor the Pink Hill case and the $59,000 figure in the Roseboro shortage was not ann ounced until Thursday, alll'iough the figure had been circulated since tbe day the Roseboro shurtare was first announced. Holt, who has directed . the Pink HiU branch of First-Citizens for the Kills Husband With Pocket Knife Clara Lee .Williams, 34 year old colored woman of the Sarecta com munity Is being held in tbe Duplin County Jail charged with the mur f'T of her husband, James Odell Williams, age 47. Wiliams died at approximately 8:30 Wednesday night within a few minutes after being stabbed one time, in the right leg. The wound, is alledged to have been inflicted by his wife with a small pocket Knife with a blade less than two inches long durnig a family squab ble. Williams died from the loss of blood before a Doctor could be sum moned. Sheriff Ralph Miller was called, and upon arriving at the Williams home was met by Mrs. Williams. Beulaville Chapter OES Installs Officers During April; Four Dates Are Scheduled New officers for the ensuing year 1960-61 of the Beulaville Chapter No. 237, Order of The Eastern Star were installed Monday night, dur ing an impressive open installation ceremony, with Leslie Kennedy as ' Installing officer. I Assisting Mr. Kennedy with the I installation were Ralph Miller, As sistant Installing Officer, Mrs. Olive Kennedy, Marshall, Mrs. Virginia Holland, Chaplain and Mrs. Louise K.'Boney, organist. Mesdames Boney and Holland David Henderson ambition and just plain "guts' to undertake a job lika this and I feel that David Henderson is the man for the Job. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. I. N. Henderson of Wallace. He has one sister, Mrs. Cnarles Towell also of Wallace, He is mnrritd to the frfrmer Mary Knowlns daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wiley Knowles of this town. They have three young sons all in the Wallace Elementary Sch ool so you can understand why he will be for any Educational pro grams for the betterment of our schools. David has not promised a "chic-ken-in-every-pot" or two cars for every family but he has promised to do the best he can and that's good enough for me. He is seeking Graham Burden's Third District seat in the U. S. House of Representatives. Tne Attorney, who is also Duplin County General Court, Judge, was reared on a farm in Onslow county. He takes pride In the fact that his family has a long history as flue cured tobacco growers. - The likable candidate says bis (eanUnnea Imok) saw Thursday night March si. State President Harrison, guest speaker for the occasion, stressed the importance of leadership and faith in the Junior Chamber of Commerce organization for a stronger club. Approximately 90 members of the two clubs attended the meeting. $75,000 past 23 years, was immediately relieved of his duties. A similar ac tion was taken in the Roseboro case when shortages weer discovered in the accounts of Mrs. E. W. Cain Jr. Investigation is contipuing in both cases. Before the Smithfield bank of ficial made the formal announce ment of the Pink Hill shortage on Thursday, reports circulated that there had been a shortage. Wade Howard of Kinston, who identifield himself as supervisor of the Pink Hill branch, said that First-Cir!zens auditors were mak ing a routine examination of books at the Pink Hill bank He said. in response to question ing, however, that no shortage was involved. She admitted to the Sheriff that she had stabbed her husband during a struggle. She said that Williams had her on the floor and was kicking and stomping her when she stabbed him in the leg. There was some evi dence that the two had been drink ing. Thomas Gray Farrior was at the home of the couple at the time of the Stabbing but said that he heard the squabble but did not see the stabbing, being out on the porch at the time. Mrs. Williams is being held with out bond pending the outcome of tne Coroners Inquest to be held Thursday night at 8:00 in the Court House at Kenansville. The couple had no children. were visiting Stars and officers .from Kenansville Chapter No. 215. The following slate of officers were installed. T. Brown will bring a group of poultry students to Duplin County on Monday, April 11, to tour sever al Duplin Country operations. Lonnie Ponset Shot Sunday At Beulaville Lonine Ponset, 15-year-old Negro youth of Beulaville, was shot in the chest Sunday night around 9 o'clock in Beulaville. He is in Duplin Gen eral Hospital in fair conditien, ac cording to Duplin Sheriff Ralp Mil ler. Elbert Evans, 15-year-old Negro from Beulaville, is alleged to have fired the pistol. Details as to the "why" and "wherefore" are un known, according to Sheriff Miller. As soon as Ponset is physically able to attend a hearing, a hearing will be held to determine the cause and what charges can and win be lodged in the case. Hyatt is married to the former Emily Baker of Rocky Mount, and they have one child Katherine Thre ersa, who was born April 1958. His father is Samuel P. Hyatt, Principal of the Cherokee Central School. At the present time, Mr. Hyatt ;s the Associate Director of student religious life on the West Cnmpiis of Duke University. Before coming to Snow Hill, Mr. Miller served as pastor of the New St. Mark's Methodist Church, Kin ston. Tad lock, of route, 5, Clinton on the night of December 15, 1959. Oates, a Nero man from Faison was arrested last wek in the Sam pson County jail and brought to Duplin Coin!;.' '.a stand trial for Tadlock's death. The true bill against Oates char ges both rnhbery and murder. Oates will be tried in the August term of Duplin Criminal Superior Court. He is being held in Duplin County jail without privilege of bond, ac cording to Sheriff Miller.
